DATA ENGINEER

JOB PURPOSE

Within the boundaries of the Marketing department, the Data Engineer manages the applicative aspect of the Data Infrastructure. He/she develops and maintains data collection, storage, analysis/quiery and visualization tools.

The Data Engineer is to obtain information from core banking application and any other system and related database with customer information to gain customer insight and to help business decision making, detection of commercial opportunities. The holder would also be responsible for design periodic product campaigns in line with retail Banking strategy.

DUTIES (KEY RESULT AREAS/RESPONSIBILITIES
DataViz, Studies, Change Management

  • Interact with business to understand and help them formalise their functional needs

  • Define relevant KPIs, indicators, data to address business needs

  • Build statistical and Artificial Intelligence/Machine Learning models to leverage the banks data in order to improve operational efficiency and unearth opportunities.

  • Design and propose relevant dashboards and visual representations to give meaning to the data and showcasing their value & interest

  • Conduct ad hoc studies and analysis to answer business’ needs: propose analyses & conclusions to transform them into recommendation

  • Ensure key insights and results from the analysis are tracked, summarized and documented for dissemination across organization

  • Support marketing team in its effort to make the quantitative & data-driven approach a standard practice

KEY DOMAINS OF INTEREST AND ASSOCIATED DELIVERABLES

1. Define, validate, implement industrial / automated reports on the following scope:

  • Sales performance & patterns

  • Products & Services profitability

  • Sales efficiency

  • Campaigns efficiency (including media campaigns efficiency)

  • Basis banking services delivery (account opening, credits, credit cards, ATMs, transfers)

2. Monitor availability & usage of new channels (mobile App, USSD, Digital zones/corners, Mobile money, New Generation ATMs) to:

  • Understand their usage and monitor their activity & availability

  • Optimise the amount of data collected, storage and analysis of it

 3. Actively contribute to building a 360° customer view

 4. Lead the definition and monitoring of customer segmentation based not only on captured but also on historical data

5. Apply techniques of big data to segmentation and scoring to play a key role in promotion campaign design and follow-up. Develop sales appetence score and other business- relevant scoring (current value, future value, churn risk)

6. Assist in advancing enterprise customer analytics solutions

SHAPING THE TECHNICAL ENVIRONMENT TO MAKE IT FIT FOR THE PURPOSE

Through its interactions with local IT and regional / HO big data specialists (data scientists, software specialists, architects):

Ensure that necessary infrastructure and tools are available

Contribute to building a roadmap, technical and functional, taking into account the evolutions of our systems and especially the scaling-up of data

Help build and deploy solutions allowing for efficient collection (quantity, quality, usability) of data, through interactions with the business… and work with technical profiles to ensure that its storage, analysis will be optimal.

  • Specific tools exposure and mastery: SQL, Terradata, Cognos, DataViz (Tablo, QlikView)

  • Know Microsoft Excel inside out, including pivot tables, graphing, regressions, and external data sets.

QUALIFICATION(S)

  • Master degree in mathematics, applied computer sciences or engineering with major in computing

  • At least 2 years of relevant practical experience in a Data management & analysis in a corporate environment and process automation
